The “college extravaganza” was a wonderful experience to me. 3 of my top 5 schools were there (St. Mary’s, Incarnate Word, and UTSA) I was able to talk to a representative from each campus, and the representatives from Incarnate Word and St. Mary’s were very helpful in guiding me in what I need to do in order to also look at playing baseball in college. I am glad I went.

Kyle Reinen – Senior – LaVernia High School

Incarnate Word had application information available right there on the spot and told us both we qualified to receive $10,000 scholarships on the spot!!!!!!.

Tessa Lenz and Preston Stuart – Seniors – LaVernia High School

As a junior the college extravaganza was a great experience. This was my first time talking to colleges and getting information. It was helpful to have a lot of schools in the same place.

Kristen Denehy – Junior – LaVernia high School

We both got chosen for the $1,000 scholarships for the schools present. It’s great to feel like we have a little bit of a jump start on the whole college process. We really liked seeing part of the St. Mary’s campus and getting all the information from the other colleges that were there.

Dear Dr. Delia Bara,
The Baseline Bums wish to extend our warm and sincere appreciation to the George Gervin Youth Center for allowing us to be a part of your 1st Annual George Gervin College Extravaganza held on Saturday, September 25, 2010. This was a most enriching and rewarding exercise, one we’re sure to remember for years to come. The impacts made through your efforts were enormous in helping Junior/Senior H.S. students recognize the importance of staying in school and obtaining a college degree. Your program was also instrumental in providing them with the necessary tools to make going to college a reality. You were successful with putting them in touch with recruiters, counselors, financial aid, assistance with completing college applications, scholarship programs,, etc., etc. This powerful approach and crisp communication gave them the confidence they needed to “REACH FOR IT”!!! Lastly, we commend your team for the outstanding job they did in raising over $1.3 million dollars in scholarship money for our future college bound students.......CONGRATULATIONS!!! It was definitely a proud moment to see the Baseline Bums listed as one of your many sponsors along side the heavy weights. We’re so excited and looking forward to assisting you once again with your next College Extravaganza

Bonnie Keammerer – Baseline Bums President

Dear Dr. Delia Bara,
We of South Texas Mensa are deeply and sincerely appreciative of the opportunity presented to us to be able to "talk Mensa" to 3,500 students. To be able to do such a thing would have been deemed impossible before our being there. It was an amazing experience, an invaluable one, and uniquely productive- we were able to acquire exactly 100 prospective members, and some great contacts among the educators who were there with their students.
I think that you would realize from my words that such an increase in prospective Mensa members is very significant-for comparison, our entire prospect list, a result of years of recruiting efforts, is only about 370 names long. To in one afternoon add more than 25% to that list is one we really appreciate.

Roy Huff Proctor Coordinator and Past President South Texas Mensa

Hello Dr. Bara.
I wanted to thank you for allowing my son and I to attend the College Extravaganza on Saturday. As you will remember, I was the gentleman who picked up the T-shirt from your office on Friday.
My son, Josue and I attended the event. The volunteers were outstanding in their support. We gleaned so much information. Josue walked away with such motivation to attend college—more than ever. I believe he was one of the very few from Brennan High School/NISD, since his AVID class did not have enough students that could come that the district could use a bus for. He will take this information back to his class to share with the rest of the class.
