Attention Juniors and Seniors!

If you are interested in applying to a Service Academy, you will need a nomination (usually congressional) if you want to attend:

  • U.S. Military Academy (West Point)
  • U.S. Naval Academy
  • U.S. Air Force Academy
  • U.S. Merchant Marine Academy

*The U.S. Coast Guard Academy does NOT require a nomination.

Once nominated, an academy application will need to be completed for each service academy to which you actually plan to apply.

ACADEMY NOMINATIONS:

Students should contact the Academy of choice after January 31 of their junior year and send a written request for an application to the congressman's office in which the student resides. (If you don't know who your congressman is, you can check this information online if you know your congressional district number).

Typically, all applications for a nomination must be postmarked BEFORE October 30, but since this can differ with each congressman, you need to check online or by phone with each individual office to see what their deadline is. By checking out the application requirements during the spring of your junior year, you will allow yourself adequate time to meet all application requirements. Typically, the congressional people require an official transcript (class rank/GPA), a recent photo, ACT/SAT scores and a 250-word typed essay entitled, "Why I want to attend a Service Academy."

For a nomination-Contact either one of the U.S. Senators from Texas

Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison
300 East 8thStreet, Ste. 961
Austin, TX 78701
(512) 916-5834
http://hutchison.senate.gov

Senator Hutchison's web site will post her service academy application for next year on her web site in June. Know her application requirements and the application deadline. An applicant must take the SAT and/or ACT by certain deadlines.
